COVID Safety Plan
Drawing on national and local health advice, with the return to onsite learning in 2022 we have developed a school start plan for term 1, 2022. This plan has three key priorities:
- the health and safety of staff and young people
- the mental and emotional well-being of students and staff, and
- ensuring continuity of learning.
This letter sent to our school community for term 1, 2022 sets out our school’s plan for implementing ACT Health Guidelines to ensure effective COVID-19 measures are in place when students arrive on campus for learning.
Summer Indoor Air Quality Plan
ACT Health has advised schools to optimise fresh air circulation to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The risk of transmission is higher in crowded and poorly ventilated spaces where people spend long periods of time together in close proximity. Good ventilation is one part of a suite of measures to minimise transmission in schools, like vaccination, physical distancing, good hygiene, cleaning and mask use.
The Chief Health Officer, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee, World Health Organisation and Safe Work Australia all recommend good indoor air quality to reduce the chance of COVID-19 transmission.
Detailed investigations have been undertaken of our schools, including technical assessments of HVAC systems (where fitted) and our ability to control fresh air.
The Summer Indoor Air Quality Plan includes a list of actions already undertaken by the Directorate (e.g., HVAC systems change) and actions for schools to undertake. The Plan includes a map that identifies the type of ventilation in each learning and teaching space that have ventilation provided by either natural or mechanical means. Natural ventilation is provided either by operable windows or louvres, while mechanical ventilation is provided by the school’s HVAC systems.
In naturally ventilated spaces, thermal comfort and ventilation will need to be balanced to provide safe learning environments. For more information, visit the ACT Education website.
